I watched Waqar, Wasim and Zaheer”: Jasprit Bumrah

Due to his 9 wicket performance in the second Test match against England, Jasprit Bumrah was declared the Player of the Match. To even the series, the home team won by 106 runs in the match. Bumrah dismissed 3 batters in the second session, after taking six wickets in the first.

Harsha Bhogle approached him at the post-match award ceremony to ask him about Waqar Younis’ comments on his Yorker to Ollie Pope in the first innings of the Vizag Test.

Harsha Bhogle: I know you talked about the ball that got Joe Root out in the first innings, but the world, including Waqar Younis, is laking about your Yorker that got Ollie Pope. How would you define that delivery?

Jasprit Bumrah: Yorker is the first delivery I learned while growing up. I watched Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, and Zaheer Khan bowling yorkers, and from there on, I picked it up. I come from a tennis ball cricket, and getting rid of a batter by bowling a Yorker is really special.

“I don’t look at numbers as winning a game for the team is more important. Numbers put pressure on you, and when I was a young bowler, they used to excite me, but not anymore. Playing for India comes with a lot of pressure, and talking about numbers doesn’t help,” he said.
